How detection works
- Every morning at 6:00 AM UTC, Parsivex ingests per-service AWS spend from Cost Explorer.
- Each service is compared to a rolling 14-day median baseline — a prior spike does not inflate the baseline and mask a new one.
- Alerts require both a ratio jump and a meaningful dollar increase, so a $2/day service tripling is not an incident.
- New services billing at $10/day or more are flagged as "new spend" even without history.

Both conditions must be true. Ratio alone is never enough — you are not paged over noise.

What AWS access is required?+
You create a read-only IAM role in your AWS account and share the Role ARN plus an External ID with Parsivex. The role only grants Describe, Get, and List permissions — we cannot create, modify, or delete any AWS resource. Setup takes about 10 minutes with our guided walkthrough. Security & Trust →
Is a credit card needed?+
No. The free scan is one scan per AWS account at no cost, with no credit card required. Paid plans are optional if you want full findings, recurring scans, and other monitoring features. Free tier limits →
What's included for free vs. paywalled?+
The free scan report shows your total estimated monthly waste, how many findings were detected, and a breakdown by waste category. Individual finding details, specific AWS resource identifiers, exact per-finding savings, and remediation steps are available only on a paid plan. The free scan is limited to one scan per AWS account, per lifetime — it does not renew monthly. Plan comparison →
How long does the scan take?+
Most scans finish in a few minutes. Duration depends on how many resources you have and how responsive AWS APIs are at the time — large accounts with hundreds of EC2 instances or many S3 buckets may take longer. How scans work →
What happens to the AWS connection after the scan?+
Nothing changes automatically. Your read-only IAM role stays in your AWS account and the connection remains in Parsivex so you can upgrade and run more scans later. Past scan results stay in your account. You can revoke access anytime by deleting the IAM role in AWS — access ends immediately. Revoking access →

Your free scan report stays in your account. If you upgrade to a paid plan, Parsivex keeps scanning on your schedule and watches your daily AWS spend every morning.
